When Bulky Waste Collection Is Useful
Bulky-waste collection is suited to customers who have a small number of large items or a mixed load that cannot go in normal bins. It avoids waiting for several separate collection services and includes the agreed carrying and loading.
For a whole property, use the house-clearance service; for a few large pieces, this page gives a more focused quote route.
Items We Commonly Assess
Sofas, armchairs, beds, mattresses, wardrobes, tables, chairs, cabinets, shelving, garden furniture, exercise equipment, appliances and boxed household items can usually be assessed from photographs. Pianos, safes, commercial machinery, oversized glass and exceptionally heavy items need dimensions and access details.
Specialist Item Charges
Upholstered furniture, mattresses, refrigeration equipment, tyres, paint and gas bottles can require separate disposal routes. The charge is not hidden inside the arrival price: disclose the items and we will show the applicable cost before confirmation.
Flats, Stairs And Difficult Access
Tell us the floor, lift size, stair turns, door widths, parking distance and whether the building requires a concierge booking. Large furniture may need basic dismantling, but that must be agreed in advance. We cannot risk forcing an item through a route that is too small.
Council Collection Or Private Collection?
Council bulky-waste schemes may suit customers who can wait, meet item limits and place goods at the specified collection point. A private collection can be more convenient when labour is needed, the items are inside, the deadline is urgent or several waste types need removing together.
Compare the complete service, not only the headline price.
Moving, Downsizing And Room-By-Room Collections
Bulky-item jobs are often part of a move or downsizing project. Customers can book one room at a time or combine several large items into a load. Send one photograph per room and a final video showing the carrying route, because a wardrobe upstairs and a sofa beside the front door require very different labour.
Before the crew arrives, empty drawers and cupboards, remove personal documents and label anything staying. This reduces the risk of a retained item being included by mistake.
Reuse And Donation Requests
Some customers ask whether suitable furniture can be reused or donated. This can only be promised when a recipient, collection standard and timing have been agreed. Items that are damaged, incomplete, fire-labelled incorrectly, heavily worn or unsafe may not be accepted by reuse organisations.
We therefore quote the clearance as waste removal unless a specific reuse arrangement is confirmed in writing.
Clear Volume Pricing For Suitable Loads
Our published cage-van prices are a useful starting point for ordinary, light and mixed waste. The final quote depends on the photographs or video, waste type, weight, access, parking, loading time, specialist items and the number of loads required. Heavy rubble, concrete, bricks, tiles, dense metal and other weight-led loads are assessed separately so the correct vehicle and disposal route can be planned.
Up to approx. 2-yard skip / estate-car boot space
Up to approx. 4-yard skip
Up to approx. 6–8-yard skip
Up to approx. 8–13-yard skip
Up to approx. 13–18-yard cage-van load
Important: these guide prices apply where the material, weight, access and loading time suit the selected load size. Sofas, mattresses, refrigeration equipment, tyres, paint, gas bottles and other specialist items can have additional disposal charges. We explain these before the collection is confirmed.
What To Send For An Accurate Quote
A clear photo or short video usually gives us the information needed to quote quickly. Please include:
- All waste from more than one angle, including anything hidden behind other items.
- The postcode and preferred collection date.
- Floor level, lift availability, stairs, narrow hallways, garden access or loading restrictions.
- Whether parking is directly outside and whether a loading bay, permit or concierge booking is required.
- Any very heavy, electrical, upholstered, refrigerated, liquid, sharp or unusual items.
- Whether items need dismantling before they can be removed.
Accurate information protects the agreed price and helps us send the right crew, vehicle and equipment.
Licensed And Responsible Waste Removal
London Waste Van operates as a licensed waste carrier. Collected material is taken through appropriate licensed waste and recycling routes. Commercial customers, landlords and trades can request the collection details needed for their records, including waste-transfer documentation where applicable.
We do not knowingly mix hazardous or restricted material into ordinary waste. Asbestos, clinical waste, unknown chemicals, fuel, pressurised containers and similar items must be disclosed before booking so we can confirm whether we can help or whether a specialist contractor is required.
